MLB Record For Most Consecutive Years Played Together

Trammel (SS) and Whitaker (2B)

“They weren’t flashy; they were just damn good. They were big-time playmakers when it counted. They were very consistent and steady. And both were very, very, very good hitters. They were simply big-time players.” – Kirk Gibson (Diamondbacks manager; Tigers outfielder 1979-87, 1993-95)

Alan Trammell and Lou Whitaker of the Detroit Tigers hold the Major League record for most consecutive years played together. The durable keystone combo manned the middle infield for the Tigers from 1977 to 1995, a total of 19 years.

The most years played together for 9 teammates is also held by the Tigers. Gates Brown, Bill Freehan, Willie Horton, Mickey Lolich, Al Kaline, Norm Cash, Jim Northrup, Dick McAuliffe and Mickey Stanley all played together for 10 years!

Very few businesses could boast this sort of continuity among their employees. Whitaker and Trammell together provide a truly positive role model for virtually any walk of life.
