About The Author

Paul is a retired equity investor, entrepreneur and baseball historian. He is co-founder of ULTIMATE BASEBALL THE GAME, a product of Gillespie Games LLC. He is also the author of ALL-TIME GREATS OF BASEBALL: My Top Picks At Each Position.

Paul Gillespie

He is the chief researcher and co-sponsor of the UBTG Player Register, arguably the most balanced ranking ever of top professional baseball players. The ranking of players by position covers years 1848 to the present. Players still active are rated if the body of their work is mostly completed.

As a baseball historian, Paul has always been fascinated by the influence that baseball has had on American culture and the influence our people have had on baseball. As his grandfather once said, “When they excavate America 2,000 years from now, the United States will be mostly known for its form of government, our popular music… and baseball. It is the only sport through which one can study the evolution of American culture throughout our history.

Additionally, Paul has had the privilege to study the history of baseball in Japan… and other countries. Collectively, the great icons of this wonderful sport…Michael Kelly, Christy Mathewson, Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe Dimaggio, Victor Starffin, Sadaharu Oh, Satchel Paige and Josh Gibson, along with many others have provided endless hours of entertainment and education.

Raised in Osaka, Japan, Paul is a long-time Nankai Hawks fan and is an expert on Major League and Japanese baseball dating back to the 19th century.

“From Deep Right Field” covers baseball news of the day, interesting facts from baseball history, and discussions on aspects of the game, such as rules and structure of the game. As always, comments from fans far and wide are welcome. The fans are the lifeblood of any sport.
